Once I showed my 6th grade music class “West Side Story,” and no one appreciated it. The only part they enjoyed was the part where it’s made clear that Tony and Maria have sex.

I showed my entire 6th, 7th, and 8th grade “Move Over Darling” - you know, the Doris Day and James…

I have DVDs I can watch with friends and DVDs that I can only watch by myself because I know for a fact that if someone else watched it with me they would only be bored/disinterested/unappreciative/weirded out by it, and that’s some kind of awkward. *sigh* That’s how it’s been for a long, long time.

Most recently, I made sure that my AP English class watched Kenneth Branagh’s film adaptation of Hamlet after we finished our reading/analysis of it. The only part they found generally engaging was the sex scene between Hamlet and Ophelia. The rest of the time they kept asking when they would be getting out of the snow.

Oh I am familiar with this sort of instance. Back in my classes, everyone wanted to listen to rap or pop music only, and never gave classical music or musical theatre tunes a try. Really a shame, if only they knew what they were missing!

Good evening, friends! Just thought I’d kick off my real posts with a picture of one of my very favorite broadway stars, Sutton Foster. Here she is in Shrek The Musical! She can really pull off any role. I only wish I could have seen her as Fay Apple (A douple-P L E!) in Anyone Can Whistle at City Center but, alas, I live quite far from the mystical Great White Way.

Hello, Tumblr!

I recently read of this mythical land called Tumblr in the newspaper, and figured I just had to see what all the hype is for myself. I can’t wait until I’ve met some fellow theatre-goers here! I’ll post my very favorite Broadway-related content here, and hopefully it’ll brighten your day when you’re feeling blue!

To introduce myself, I’ll say a few facts:

  • I love The Drowsy Chaperone. It never fails to brighten my own day, so I’ve set it’s record cover as my icon here!
  • I love Stephen Sondheim. He is a true genius and there is nothing less to be said of him.
  • I love sweaters. They keep me so nice and cozy on a cold Winter’s day. Give me a sweater, a cup of tea, and a Broadway album, and I’m a happy man!

There you have it! For all means and purposes, you may call me the man in the chair. For that is what I am! Cheers.
